LOS ANGELES — Celebrities who fall on tough legal times can often rely on their fellow stars for support.
Jodie Foster spoke out on Mel Gibson’s behalf after his anti-Semitic tirade last summer. The cast of “The View” gave Alec Baldwin a place to explain his custody battle and an angry voicemail message he left for his 11-year-old daughter. Robert Downey, Jr., was welcomed with understanding and job offers after his multiple drug arrests.

So here’s something new: A celebrity whose fame stemmed at least as much from good looks and sex appeal as from actual work product is nabbed for driving while blotto again, but nonetheless manages to avoid jail time.
No, not her.
George Michael, he of the stubble and the dance moves and the not all that many hit records lately, was sentenced in Brent Magistrates’ Court in London today to 100 hours of community service after pleading guilty to driving while unfit (in his case, it was drugs, not booze), news agencies reported.
